Coronavirus update

J Ward and Aradale will reopen for tours from Saturday 21 November 2020. Online bookings are required (see below). Please check the calendar below for days and dates available.

Day tours

Tours are conducted each Sunday and Wednesday at 11am and 2pm, by Friends of J Ward volunteers. Extra tours are organised for public holiday weekends (see below). Group bookings can be made by special arrangement.

Due to the Health and Safety Policy of Melbourne Polytechnic all day tours of Aradale will be cancelled on a day of Total Fire Ban in the South West Fire District. If this eventuates, the Friends of J Ward will notify all online customers and also refund the cost of the ticket.

  • Approximate duration: 2 hours
  • Tours commence from the Grano Street entrance
  • Due to the walking involved, parental discretion is advised when taking young children
  • Accessibility – stairs, no wheelchairs
  • Toilets – available during the tour

  • Participants will gain a greater understanding of the history of Victorian Mental Health System.

Concession applies to Aged Pensioners, Seniors Card holders and pre-booked groups of ten or more. Group tours can be organised at any time. The cost is $18 per head for minimum of 10 people, or $180.
